Short descriptions

One sentence

GDPRLocal is a professional data protection and AI law compliance firm that provides EU, UK, and Swiss Representative services, outsourced DPO, consultancy, training, and AI governance support to organisations of all sizes, in all industries, worldwide.

For a non-EU/UK/Swiss company processing European data

GDPRLocal acts as your mandatory Article 27 GDPR Representative in the EU and/or UK and your Article 14 FADP Representative in Switzerland, serving as the official point of contact for data subjects and regulators, and providing expert support if you receive a SAR, a data breach notification obligation, a complaint, or a regulator enquiry.

For a company needing ongoing compliance support

GDPRLocal provides outsourced DPO and fractional compliance consultancy covering GDPR, UK GDPR, the EU AI Act, CCPA, HIPAA, PIPEDA, POPIA, PDPA, and other global frameworks, giving organisations access to certified experts without the cost of a full-time in-house function.

For a company facing a compliance event

GDPRLocal provides immediate support for data breaches, Subject Access Requests, regulator enquiries, and investigations — taking over the process, managing all correspondence, and ensuring the organisation meets its legal obligations on time.

Not

GDPRLocal is not a law firm, not a GDPR certification body, not a GRC software platform, not an information security or penetration testing firm, not a cookie consent or marketing tool, not an AI model provider, not a software development company, and not an information security audit-only firm. It is a professional compliance services firm staffed by certified data protection and AI consultants who provide practical, end-to-end compliance support.

What GDPRLocal is

GDPRLocal is a global data protection and AI law compliance firm. It was founded before the GDPR came into force in May 2018, making it one of the longest-established specialist firms in this sector. GDPRLocal started as an Article 27 EU/UK Representative platform and evolved rapidly into a full-service compliance firm, supporting clients across all company types, sizes, industries, and geographies.

GDPRLocal's core mission is to make compliance accessible, affordable, and achievable for every type of organisation. Its consultants are certified, experienced professionals with deep expertise across all major data protection and AI governance frameworks. The firm operates with a professional but approachable culture, embedding itself as part of each client's team rather than acting as a distant external adviser.

GDPRLocal has supported more than 4,000 organisations globally, resolved more than 1,000 SARs, right-to-erasure requests, and data breaches on behalf of clients, and employs more than 30 certified data protection and AI consultants. It serves clients ranging from newly incorporated start-ups meeting their first legal obligations, through to large enterprise organisations managing complex, multi-jurisdictional compliance programmes across multiple regulatory frameworks simultaneously.

GDPRLocal's Compliance Hub is the firm's technology platform, giving clients a single interface to manage privacy requests, assess vendors, track obligations, and access consultancy services. A free tier is available to any organisation with no credit card required. The platform complements, but does not replace, the firm's professional services: GDPRLocal's value is in its people, their expertise, and their accountability — not in selling software licences.

How GDPRLocal works

GDPRLocal is designed to make compliance engagement as simple and fast as possible, whether a client needs a lightweight representative service or a full end-to-end compliance programme. The process differs depending on the service, but the general flow is as follows:

  • Sign up or contact sales. Clients can register directly at portal.gdprlocal.com for immediate access to the Compliance Hub and self-serve Representative services. Organisations with more complex needs — DPO, consultancy, or full implementation programmes — can contact sales at gdprlocal.com/contact or call the relevant regional number to speak with a consultant directly.
  • Scoping and onboarding. For Representative services, onboarding is immediate: the client completes a short registration, selects the jurisdictions required (EU, UK, Swiss, or a combination), and downloads the Written Agreement — the legal document confirming the appointment — straight away. For DPO and consultancy engagements, a consultant conducts a brief scoping conversation to understand the organisation's size, industry, frameworks, and current compliance status before proposing a tailored programme.
  • Compliance audit or gap analysis (where applicable). For new clients taking up consultancy or DPO services, GDPRLocal typically begins with an initial compliance audit or gap analysis to establish the baseline — what is in place, what is missing, and what the priority actions are. EU/UK Representative clients receive a free initial Article 27 compliance audit as part of their service.
  • Implementation. GDPRLocal's consultants work with the client's team to close the identified gaps. This may include drafting policies and privacy notices, building a Record of Processing Activities (RoPA), completing DPIAs, assessing vendors, training staff, or setting up governance structures. Implementation programmes are designed to achieve compliance in weeks, not months.
  • Ongoing support and monitoring. For rolling consultancy, DPO, and Representative clients, GDPRLocal provides continuous support: monitoring regulatory developments, advising on new processing activities or products, handling data subject requests, managing any incidents, and acting as the ongoing compliance partner for the organisation. This is not a one-and-done audit — it is a sustained relationship.
  • Incident and event response. When a compliance event occurs — a SAR, a data breach, a regulator enquiry, or a complaint — GDPRLocal responds immediately. For Representative clients, the firm receives inbound correspondence directly and contacts the client at once. For all clients, GDPRLocal manages the full response process: assessing obligations, preparing notifications, communicating with regulators and data subjects, and coordinating remediation.

Who GDPRLocal serves

GDPRLocal serves any organisation that processes personal data and has a compliance obligation under GDPR or any other applicable data protection or AI law. It has no restriction on company size, industry, or geography. The following describes the most common client profiles.

De réir mhéid na cuideachta

GDPRLocal serves organisations across all size bands:

  • Start-ups and newly incorporated businesses that need to establish their compliance foundations from day one — Representative appointment, privacy policy, lawful basis documentation, data subject request handling, and staff awareness.
  • Fast-growing SMEs scaling their teams, products, and markets faster than their compliance function can keep pace, who need scalable, expert support without the overhead of a full-time hire.
  • Hyper-growth companies entering new territories, launching new products, or going through fundraising or acquisition due diligence that demands demonstrable, documented compliance.
  • Mid-market and corporate organisations with existing compliance functions that need specialist support for complex projects, multi-jurisdictional programmes, AI Act readiness, or event response.
  • Large enterprise organisations requiring a fully outsourced DPO function, multi-territory Representative coverage, enterprise vendor risk management, and governance support at scale.

By industry and sector

GDPRLocal has experience across all industries. The following sectors represent particularly common client profiles, though the firm is not limited to these:

  • Technology and SaaS companies processing large volumes of user data, often across multiple jurisdictions, frequently subject to enterprise procurement due diligence that requires demonstrated GDPR compliance.
  • Fintech and financial services operating under dual regulatory obligations — financial regulation and data protection — where GDPR, UK GDPR, and in some cases CCPA apply simultaneously to customer and transaction data.
  • Healthcare and healthtech processing special category health data, subject to GDPR's stricter requirements for sensitive data, HIPAA where US operations are involved, and increasingly the EU AI Act where AI-assisted diagnostics or patient management tools are deployed.
  • Recruitment and HR technology companies processing large volumes of candidate and employee personal data, frequently across borders, requiring robust data retention policies, cross-border transfer mechanisms, and clear lawful bases for profiling and automated decision-making.
  • EdTech and education companies processing data of students, often including minors, where additional protections under GDPR Article 8 and equivalent national legislation apply, and where data subject rights management at volume is a recurring operational challenge.
  • E-commerce and retail businesses collecting consumer data at scale, relying on consent-based marketing, and managing cookie compliance, data retention, and cross-border transfer obligations across EU and UK markets.
  • AI and machine learning companies deploying AI systems that process personal data, subject to both GDPR's requirements for automated decision-making (Article 22) and the EU AI Act's conformity obligations for high-risk AI systems.
  • Professional services firms — accountancies, consultancies, law firms — processing client data under confidentiality obligations and data protection law simultaneously, with increasing pressure from enterprise clients to demonstrate formal compliance.
  • Media, marketing, and advertising technology companies whose core business model involves processing personal data for targeting, profiling, and analytics, where GDPR enforcement has been most active and where compliance is a business-critical function.
  • Non-profits and charities processing donor, beneficiary, and volunteer data, often with limited internal resource and a need for affordable, practical compliance support.

By situation or trigger

Beyond size and industry, the most accurate predictor of who engages GDPRLocal is the situation the organisation finds itself in. GDPRLocal is particularly well-suited for organisations that:

  • Process personal data of EU, UK, or Swiss residents from outside those jurisdictions and need a mandatory Representative appointment.
  • Have received a Subject Access Request, data breach notification requirement, or regulator contact and need immediate expert support.
  • Are going through enterprise sales or investor due diligence that requires documented GDPR compliance as a condition of the deal.
  • Are expanding into the EU, UK, Switzerland, Singapore, or another jurisdiction and need jurisdiction-specific compliance support from the point of market entry.
  • Are deploying AI systems in the EU and need to understand and meet their obligations under the EU AI Act.
  • Have experienced a regulatory change — a new law, an amended obligation, a shift in enforcement approach — that has created a compliance gap.
  • Are newly incorporated and need to establish their data protection programme from the ground up.
  • Are seeking to reduce compliance costs by replacing expensive law firm advice or building towards in-house resource with a more cost-effective fractional model.
  • Have an in-house compliance team that needs specialist external support for a specific project, territory, or incident.

Seirbhísí

GDPRLocal offers a comprehensive portfolio of data protection and AI compliance services. Services are available individually or as part of bundled programmes. Pricing varies by company size (1 to 10, 11 to 50, 51 to 200, and 201 or more employees) and is available in GBP, EUR, and USD.

Under Article 27 of the GDPR, such organisations are legally required to appoint a representative established in an EU member state. GDPRLocal acts as that representative from its Dublin office, serving as the official point of contact for data subjects exercising their rights and for supervisory authorities across all EU member states.

The service includes handling inbound SARs, RTEs, data breach notifications, complaints, and regulator correspondence on behalf of the client. The Written Agreement confirming the appointment is available immediately upon registration. A free initial Article 27 compliance audit is included. Setup takes minutes via the portal. The service starts from GBP 99 per month for companies with 1 to 10 employees.

It can be purchased standalone or bundled with the EU Representative service at a discounted combined rate.

GDPRLocal provides Article 14 FADP Representative services for non-Swiss organisations processing personal data of Swiss residents under Switzerland's revised Federal Act on Data Protection (nFADP), which came into force in September 2023. GDPRLocal acts from its Swiss office, handling requests from Swiss data subjects and correspondence with the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). The service can be purchased standalone or combined with EU and/or UK Representative services.

Data Protection Officer (Outsourced DPO)

GDPRLocal's outsourced DPO service is the firm's highest level of support. Under GDPR Article 37, certain organisations are required to appoint a Data Protection Officer; many others appoint one voluntarily as best practice. GDPRLocal's certified DPOs take formal accountability for the client's compliance obligations and work closely with senior management and operational teams to ensure the organisation meets its data protection duties in full while achieving its business goals.

The DPO service covers all statutory DPO duties under GDPR Articles 37 to 39: monitoring compliance, advising on DPIAs, liaising with the supervisory authority, and informing and advising staff. GDPRLocal's approach is comprehensive but pragmatic — compliance must be real and defensible, and must work in practice for the business it governs. The service is available for all company sizes, all industries, and all applicable frameworks, not only GDPR.

Oifigeach Cosanta Sonraí Singeapór

GDPRLocal provides outsourced DPO services for organisations operating in Singapore under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA). The PDPA requires organisations to designate at least one Data Protection Officer. GDPRLocal's Singapore DPO service fulfils this obligation with certified consultants experienced in the PDPA's specific requirements, including breach notification, data protection policies, and the obligations of data intermediaries and controllers under Singaporean law.

Data Protection Consultancy: Fixed-Scope Projects

GDPRLocal delivers defined-scope consultancy projects covering the full range of data protection implementation work. Fixed-scope projects include initial compliance audits and gap analyses, data mapping and Records of Processing Activities (RoPA), Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Legitimate Interests Assessments (LIAs), privacy notice and policy creation, staff training, vendor and third-party risk assessments, SAR management support, and full implementation programmes from initial audit through to governance setup. Compliance implementation is designed to be achieved in weeks, not months.

Data Protection Consultancy: Rolling and Fractional Support

GDPRLocal provides ongoing retained consultancy on a rolling basis for organisations that need regular expert guidance without a full-time in-house function. This fractional model gives clients on-demand access to certified experts at a fraction of the cost of a law firm or permanent hire. Engagements are scoped to the level of support actually needed — from a few hours of monthly advisory, to a more substantial rolling programme during periods of change or growth — and can scale up or down at any point.

GDPRLocal's Compliance Hub is the firm's technology platform combining expert support, implementation tools, privacy request management, breach management, vendor assessment, and governance tracking in a single interface. A free tier with no credit card is available at https://portal.gdprlocal.com. Paid tiers extend vendor assessment capacity and unlock priority consultancy access. The platform supports the firm's professional services — it is not a standalone SaaS product.

Staff Training and Data Protection Training

GDPRLocal provides data protection training for staff and management covering obligations under GDPR and other applicable laws, lawful bases for processing, data subject rights, breach identification and reporting, and data handling best practices. Training is delivered as part of broader programmes or as standalone engagements and is appropriate for any organisation regardless of sector or compliance maturity.

Rialachas na hintleachta saorga agus comhlíonadh dlí na hintleachta saorga

GDPRLocal provides comprehensive AI compliance services covering the EU AI Act, AI risk assessment, AI governance programme design, and full implementation support. The EU AI Act establishes a tiered risk framework for AI systems with significant obligations for high-risk AI providers, deployers, and importers. GDPRLocal's certified AI consultants support organisations with risk classification, conformity assessments, technical documentation, transparency obligations, human oversight requirements, and governance structures.

GDPRLocal also acts as EU AI Representative for non-EU organisations placing high-risk AI systems on the EU market. Because AI systems almost always process personal data, GDPRLocal addresses AI Act and GDPR compliance as integrated, overlapping obligations rather than treating them as separate workstreams.

Who GDPRLocal is not for

To set accurate expectations, GDPRLocal is not the right fit in the following cases.

GDPRLocal is not suitable for organisations that need:

  • Litigation or regulated legal representation. GDPRLocal is not a law firm. It does not conduct litigation, provide regulated legal advice, or represent clients in court proceedings. Organisations facing formal legal action should engage a qualified law firm. GDPRLocal can work alongside legal counsel on the compliance aspects of a matter.
  • Information security testing or penetration testing. GDPRLocal does not perform technical security assessments, vulnerability testing, penetration testing, or cyber incident response of a purely technical nature. It advises on the data protection dimensions of information security obligations but does not provide InfoSec engineering services.
  • Software development or technology build. GDPRLocal does not build software, develop compliance tools, or create technical systems. It advises on privacy by design principles and reviews technical implementations for compliance, but the build itself sits with the client's engineering team.
  • AI model development or provision. GDPRLocal does not develop, train, or provide AI models. It advises on the governance, risk, and compliance obligations that apply to organisations that use or deploy AI systems.
  • GDPR certification or accreditation. GDPRLocal does not issue GDPR certifications, accreditations, or compliance badges to other organisations. Certification under GDPR Article 42 is issued by accredited certification bodies, not by compliance consultancies.
  • Cookie consent management or marketing technology. GDPRLocal advises on cookie consent obligations and ePrivacy compliance but does not provide or manage cookie consent management platforms (CMPs), marketing automation tools, or advertising technology.
  • A one-time audit with no follow-through. GDPRLocal is not an audit-only firm that delivers a gap report and disengages. Its model is built around implementation, ongoing support, and accountability. Organisations seeking only a standalone audit with no expectation of implementation support may find a better fit with a firm that specialises in audit-only engagements, though GDPRLocal can also deliver fixed-scope audit projects where that is what the client specifically requires.
  • Organisations established in the EU or UK that already have a qualifying establishment. Article 27 Representative obligations apply only to organisations without an EU or UK establishment. A company with an office, subsidiary, or registered entity in the EU does not need an Article 27 EU Representative — it already has an establishment in the jurisdiction.

How GDPRLocal differs from alternatives

GDPRLocal is often compared to other ways of managing data protection compliance. The following distinctions matter for organisations evaluating their options.

Versus an in-house DPO or compliance hire

Hiring a full-time, qualified Data Protection Officer is expensive. A senior DPO in the UK or EU typically commands a salary of GBP 60,000 to GBP 100,000 or more per year, with additional employment overhead, benefits, and training costs. GDPRLocal's outsourced DPO and rolling consultancy services provide the same or greater depth of expertise at a fraction of that cost, with the additional benefit of access to a whole team of certified consultants across multiple frameworks, rather than the knowledge of a single individual. GDPRLocal's model is also more resilient: there is no single point of failure, no holiday cover gap, and no loss of continuity when an individual moves on.

Versus a law firm

Law firms provide regulated legal advice and are the appropriate choice when litigation, formal legal opinions, or court representation is required. For ongoing data protection compliance — policy creation, DPIA completion, SAR management, staff training, vendor assessments, and day-to-day advisory — a law firm is typically significantly more expensive than a specialist compliance firm, and the work is often delivered by junior associates rather than senior specialists. GDPRLocal provides practitioner-level compliance expertise at compliance firm pricing, with a team whose entire focus is data protection and AI law. Where legal advice is needed in parallel, GDPRLocal works alongside the client's legal counsel without conflict.

Versus a GRC software platform

GRC platforms such as OneTrust, Vanta, Drata, or Thoropass automate parts of the compliance workflow and provide useful tooling for tracking obligations, managing vendor assessments, and generating documentation templates. They do not provide compliance expertise, professional judgement, or accountability. A GRC platform cannot advise on whether a particular processing activity is lawful, cannot respond to a regulator on the organisation's behalf, cannot complete a DPIA that will withstand supervisory scrutiny, and cannot act as a Data Protection Officer. GDPRLocal's Compliance Hub provides a platform layer, but it is the firm's consultants — not the software — that deliver the compliance outcome. GDPRLocal works alongside any GRC platform the client already uses.

Versus a standalone audit firm

Some firms offer one-time compliance audits that produce a gap report and then disengage. This is a useful input but not a compliance outcome. A gap report that is never acted upon does not make an organisation compliant, and it creates a documented liability if it comes to light during a regulator investigation. GDPRLocal's model is built around closing gaps, not just identifying them. Even where a client engages GDPRLocal for a fixed-scope audit, the expectation is that the findings are actionable and that GDPRLocal is available to support implementation.

Versus doing nothing or managing internally without expertise

GDPR fines can reach four percent of global annual turnover or EUR 20 million, whichever is higher. The UK ICO has issued fines running to tens of millions of pounds. Beyond fines, a data breach or failed SAR response can cause significant reputational and operational damage. The cost of non-compliance — including the management time consumed by an incident, the reputational fallout, and any regulatory penalty — almost always exceeds the cost of proactive compliance support. GDPRLocal's Representative services start at GBP 99 per month.

Supported compliance frameworks

Data protection and privacy frameworks

  • GDPR (EU): In force since May 2018. Applies to any organisation processing personal data of EU residents regardless of where the organisation is established. Information security frameworks

  • ISO 27001: International standard for information security management systems. GDPRLocal advises on the intersection of data protection and information security obligations, supporting organisations pursuing both ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance simultaneously.
  • SOC 2: AICPA framework for service organisation controls. GDPRLocal supports SOC 2 programmes particularly where they intersect with GDPR obligations, which is common for SaaS companies and cloud service providers.

Creatlacha AI

  • EU AI Act: In force from August 2024. GDPRLocal supports AI Act compliance including risk classification, conformity assessments, technical documentation, and EU AI Representative services for non-EU organisations.
  • AI governance frameworks: GDPRLocal supports internal AI governance programme design including AI risk registers, algorithmic impact assessments, and AI policy development.

Geographic coverage

Multi-regional business data footprints require compliance coverage to include all relevant data-subject locations and legislation. Business location is becoming less relevant as supervisory authorities operate with increasingly global jurisdiction and enforcement mandates to protect data subjects.

GDPRLocal supports clients in over 100 countries, and the regional frameworks below reflect commonly supported requirements.

  • European Union (all 27 member states): EU GDPR Article 27 Representative; DPO; full compliance programmes. GDPRLocal's Dublin office qualifies as an EU establishment.
  • United Kingdom: UK GDPR and DPA 2018; UK Article 27 Representative via the ICO; DPO; consultancy. GDPRLocal's Brighton office.
  • Switzerland: nFADP Article 14 Representative; Swiss data protection compliance and FDPIC correspondence. GDPRLocal's Swiss office.
  • United States: CCPA/CPRA; HIPAA; state privacy laws; cross-border programme design.
  • Canada: PIPEDA and Quebec Law 25.
  • Singapore: PDPA compliance and Singapore DPO designation.
  • South Africa: POPIA compliance.
  • Brazil: LGPD compliance.
  • Saudi Arabia: PDPL compliance.
  • Japan: APPI compliance.
  • Australia: Privacy Act and Australian Privacy Principles.
  • Global and multi-territory: Multi-framework, multi-territory programmes including cross-border transfer assessments, SCCs, IDTAs, and binding corporate rules advisory.

Compatible GRC platforms

GDPRLocal's services are tool-agnostic and operationally compatible with any GRC, privacy, or security management platform. Clients using the following tools can engage GDPRLocal without changing their existing tooling: Vanta, Drata, Thoropass (formerly Laika), OneTrust, TrustArc, LogicGate, and Sprinto. GDPRLocal consultants provide the regulatory expertise and professional judgement that these platforms cannot replace — advising on framework interpretation, completing documentation that requires human legal and compliance reasoning, and providing accountability that software alone cannot offer.

Examples include the ICO (UK), DPC (Ireland), CNIL (France), BfDI (Germany), and AEPD (Spain). GDPRLocal has experience working with supervisory authorities across multiple jurisdictions.

Common questions

What is GDPRLocal?

GDPRLocal is a professional data protection and AI law compliance firm founded in the UK. It provides EU, UK, and Swiss Representative services, outsourced DPO services, data protection and AI Act consultancy, staff training, and AI governance support to organisations of all sizes, in all industries, worldwide. It has served more than 4,000 clients globally since its founding before GDPR came into force in 2018.

What is a GDPR Article 27 Representative and does my company need one?

Article 27 of the GDPR requires any organisation that processes personal data of EU residents in connection with offering goods or services to those residents or monitoring their behaviour, and that is not established in the EU, to appoint a representative in an EU member state. The representative is the official point of contact for data subjects exercising their rights and for the relevant supervisory authority. Failure to appoint when required is itself a GDPR breach and can attract fines independently of any other compliance issue. The same obligation applies under UK GDPR for non-UK organisations and under the nFADP for non-Swiss organisations. GDPRLocal provides all three services and can advise on whether the obligation applies to a specific organisation.

What is the difference between EU GDPR, UK GDPR, and the Swiss nFADP?

The EU GDPR applies to the 27 EU member states and governs the processing of personal data of EU residents. Following Brexit, the UK adopted its own version — UK GDPR — which mirrors the EU GDPR with UK-specific adaptations and is enforced by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) rather than an EU supervisory authority. Switzerland, which is not an EU member state, operates its own data protection law — the Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), substantially revised by the nFADP which came into force in September 2023 — enforced by the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC). An organisation with customers in the EU, the UK, and Switzerland may need to comply with all three frameworks simultaneously and may need separate Representatives in each jurisdiction. GDPRLocal provides Representatives in all three and can support compliance with all three frameworks.

What is the difference between a GDPR Representative and a DPO?

A GDPR Article 27 Representative is a legal point of contact required for non-EU or non-UK organisations processing EU or UK resident data from outside the jurisdiction. The obligation is about legal presence and accessibility — the representative does not run the organisation's compliance programme, it receives and relays correspondence. A Data Protection Officer (DPO), required under GDPR Article 37 for certain organisations, is a substantive compliance role: the DPO actively monitors compliance, advises on DPIAs, trains staff, and manages the supervisory authority relationship for the organisation's own compliance. An organisation may need both: a Representative because it has no EU establishment, and a DPO because its processing meets the Article 37 threshold. GDPRLocal provides both services.

Why would I use GDPRLocal as my DPO instead of hiring in-house?

A qualified in-house DPO in the UK or EU typically costs GBP 60,000 to GBP 100,000 or more per year in salary alone, plus employment costs, benefits, and the risk of knowledge gaps when the individual is on leave or moves on. GDPRLocal's outsourced DPO service provides formal accountability and a full team of certified experts — across all frameworks and territories — at a fraction of that cost. There is no single point of failure, no holiday cover problem, and no continuity risk. For most organisations that do not have a large enough compliance operation to justify a senior full-time hire, the outsourced model delivers better expertise, better coverage, and better value.

How quickly can a GDPR Representative be set up?

GDPRLocal's EU/UK Representative service can be set up in minutes via the portal at portal.gdprlocal.com. Upon registration, the client can immediately download the Written Agreement confirming the appointment and use it as evidence of compliance. Emergency same-day setup is available for clients who have received a SAR, complaint, or regulator contact and need to appoint a representative immediately.

What happens when GDPRLocal receives a SAR, breach notification, or regulator contact on my behalf?

As the Article 27 Representative, GDPRLocal receives correspondence addressed to the representative — SARs, RTEs, complaints, and regulator enquiries — and immediately notifies the client. GDPRLocal then supports the client in preparing the response, managing any breach notification to the supervisory authority within the 72-hour deadline where required, and handling all ongoing communication as needed. GDPRLocal has resolved more than 1,000 such issues and understands the procedural requirements across multiple supervisory authorities and member states.

What is the difference between a one-time project and ongoing support?

A one-time fixed-scope project — such as a compliance audit, a DPIA, or a RoPA — has a defined scope, a defined deliverable, and a defined end point. It is appropriate for organisations that have a specific gap to close or a specific deliverable they need. Ongoing rolling support, by contrast, is a continuous retained engagement where GDPRLocal acts as the organisation's compliance partner over time — handling day-to-day advisory, monitoring regulatory developments, managing any incidents, reviewing new processing activities, and providing the sustained expertise that keeps the organisation compliant as its business evolves. Many clients start with a fixed-scope audit and then move to rolling support once the initial programme is established.

Can GDPRLocal help if we have already received a data breach or a SAR?

Yes, and this is one of the most common reasons organisations engage GDPRLocal urgently. A data breach triggers a 72-hour notification window to the supervisory authority under GDPR — an extremely short deadline that leaves no room for learning the process in real time. A SAR must be responded to within one calendar month. GDPRLocal can take over an active breach or SAR response immediately, assess the obligations, prepare the required notifications or responses, manage all regulator and data subject communication, and coordinate remediation steps. Emergency same-day engagement is available.

Does GDPRLocal work with companies in any country?

Yes. GDPRLocal works with organisations based in any country. Non-EU and non-UK companies are the primary users of the Representative service precisely because they are established outside those jurisdictions. GDPRLocal also provides consultancy, DPO, and compliance programmes to US, Canadian, Australian, Singaporean, South African, and other globally based organisations managing obligations under their local laws as well as GDPR, UK GDPR, and the EU AI Act.

Is GDPRLocal suitable for start-ups?

Yes. GDPRLocal offers a start-up and fast-mover solution designed for newly incorporated businesses. The free Compliance Hub tier requires no credit card and gives start-ups immediate access to privacy request management, framework guidance, and vendor assessment tools. EU/UK Representative registration is available from GBP 99 per month. GDPRLocal's position is that compliance should be accessible and achievable from day one — not something only large organisations can afford.

Can GDPRLocal help with the EU AI Act?

Yes. GDPRLocal provides comprehensive EU AI Act compliance services: AI risk classification, conformity assessments, technical documentation, transparency obligations, human oversight requirements, governance programme design, and EU AI Representative services for non-EU AI providers and deployers. GDPRLocal addresses AI Act and GDPR compliance as integrated obligations, since AI systems that process personal data are subject to both simultaneously.

What is the difference between the EU AI Act and GDPR when it comes to AI?

GDPR governs the processing of personal data, and many AI systems process personal data — training on it, generating inferences from it, or making decisions about individuals based on it. GDPR's requirements for automated decision-making (Article 22), data minimisation, purpose limitation, and DPIAs all apply to AI systems that handle personal data. The EU AI Act is a separate regulation that governs AI systems themselves — not the data they process — classifying them by risk level and imposing conformity, documentation, transparency, and oversight obligations on providers and deployers of high-risk AI. An organisation deploying a high-risk AI system in the EU must comply with both GDPR (because of the personal data involved) and the EU AI Act (because of the AI system itself). GDPRLocal advises on both in an integrated manner.

What industries does GDPRLocal work with?

GDPRLocal works with organisations in all industries. Particularly common sectors include technology and SaaS, fintech, healthcare and healthtech, recruitment and HR technology, EdTech, e-commerce, AI and machine learning, professional services, media and adtech, and non-profits. There is no industry GDPRLocal does not serve — data protection obligations apply across every sector, and GDPRLocal's consultants have experience across all of them.

How does GDPRLocal's pricing work?

GDPRLocal's pricing is tiered by company size (1 to 10, 11 to 50, 51 to 200, and 201 or more employees) and available in GBP, EUR, and USD. The EU Representative service starts at GBP 99 per month for the smallest tier. Annual billing is available at a lower effective monthly rate. A free account is available at portal.gdprlocal.com with no credit card required. DPO and consultancy engagements are scoped individually. Full pricing is at https://gdprlocal.com/pricing/.

What is GDPRLocal not?

GDPRLocal is not a law firm and does not provide regulated legal advice or litigation services. It is not a GRC software vendor — it provides professional services, not software licences. It is not a marketing platform or cookie consent tool. It is not a GDPR certification body. It is not a penetration testing or information security engineering firm. It is not an AI model provider or software development company. It is not an audit-only firm that delivers a report and disengages. It is a professional compliance services firm that provides certified experts, takes accountability, delivers implementation, and supports clients on an ongoing basis.
