Meet the GDPRLocal Team: Nick Bundevski

Meet Nick Bundevski – our Customer Success Manager. He has been with GDPRLocal since the early days, transitioning into this key role as he helps build the department from the ground up. With his passion for providing exceptional work and client service, he’s playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of customer success at GDPRLocal.

Q: You’ve been with GDPRLocal from the very beginning. How did you get started, and how has your role evolved over time?

My previous employer was a Marketing Company that had an Investment Program to help startups scale their businesses. I joined the Operations team, and while we had a few Incubators running at the time, there was also GDPRLocal, making its baby steps in the compliance world. It was a small team – just three people: the CEO, Compliance Executive and a Developer. I was also sharing their desk and was actively involved in their process and product development, support, drafting the most detailed and complicated reports, some of them still in use today. I watched the business evolve and the team growing from 3 people to 6, then 10 and now over 30 people involved. At a certain point GDPRLocal was pretty independent, and I was more involved with different Incubators, however I always felt and was treated as part of their team. So when the Customer Success position arose, it kinda felt natural for me to inquire about it with their Head of Commercial (remember the first Complaint Executive… same guy). So the next day I had a contract and starting date, and the rest is history.

Q: What does a typical day look like for you as a Customer Success Manager at GDPRLocal, and which part of your role do you enjoy the most?

My daily routine kicks off with a quick check of the Forbes 100 Richest People List. Since I’m not there (yet!), I grab my coffee and proceed to work. The day usually begins with tackling the inbox – client inquiries and support tickets always come first.

Following that, it’s on to team catch-ups. We review any ongoing projects, discuss strategies, and address any new developments in data protection that need our attention. This could involve mapping out training sessions or reviewing action plans to stay ahead of the latest regulations.

Midday often brings some creative work. I love brainstorming sessions where we craft newsletters, presentations, or printed materials from scratch, it’s the part of the job that I enjoy the most.

I also block out time to monitor industry news and updates, making sure I’m up to speed on emerging trends or new data privacy regulations. Some days I get pulled into client meetings to offer advice on our portal, help solve challenges, or even demo a new tool we’ve rolled out.

Of course, I never miss time for personal development. Whether it’s an online course or attending an industry webinar, there’s always room to sharpen skills. Also, I do manage to squeeze in some time for a cup of coffee on our office rooftop or lunch out in the nearby restaurants.

Q: How do you build strong, lasting relationships with clients while ensuring they stay informed about important updates or changes in the constantly evolving world of data protection?

The world of data regulations is constantly evolving, with new rules and practices popping up every day. Add to that the growing demand from clients to stay on top of it all, and things can get pretty busy. Thankfully, our team of experts covers different regions, each specializing in specific data laws. With their knowledge and collaboration, I’m able to pass that expertise on to our clients.

We share insights through several channels:

  • Newsletters: We keep everyone updated on the latest changes, updates, and fines related to data regulations worldwide.
  • Whitepapers: diving into specific data protection regulations like PIPEDA in Canada, the Australia Privacy Act, and India’s DPDP.
  • Monthly catch-ups: We regularly connect with our clients through surveys or simple follow-ups to ensure they’re getting the support they need.
Q: Outside of work, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy unwinding and stay balanced?

While my team is out running marathons in the morning or hiking Mt. Everest during lunch breaks, I’m the total opposite. I love a slower pace – give me a good cup of coffee and a nice meal any day. I enjoy spending time with my  friends and planning our next trips – I like to think I have a Master’s Degree in that! I’m also a big fan of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Game of Thrones (except for Season 8… seriously, what was that?).

Recently, I welcomed a new puppy into my life! We’re currently figuring out the whole going up and down the stairs thing together.

Q: As someone who loves to travel, what’s one destination that’s left a lasting impression on you and why?

I have been fortunate enough to visit pretty much every corner of the world, and I was paid for it (those were good days :)). For over 10 years, I worked in tourism and got to experience so many incredible places, each with its own history, culture, and charm.

I have a few moments that I will always cherish, like: passing for the first time in the Panama Canal, experiencing the same day twice when you cross the International Date Line, flying over the Nazca Lines in Peru or meeting Santa in Lapland. However, Myanmar has always been my all time favourite, as It is such an undiscovered gem, stunning pagodas, intriguing culture and the most humble and kind people you will ever meet. Absolutely brilliant experience.
