Navigate Europe's risk-based AI law
The EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) is the world's first comprehensive AI law. It classifies AI systems into risk tiers - unacceptable, high, limited, and minimal - with extra rules for general-purpose AI models, and applies to any provider or deployer whose AI systems affect people in the EU. Fines reach up to €35 million or 7% of global turnover.
Classify every AI system by risk level (unacceptable, high, limited, minimal) and GPAI status
Complete conformity assessments and register high-risk systems in the EU database
Meet transparency obligations for chatbots, deepfakes, and emotion-recognition systems
Maintain technical documentation for GPAI models, including training data summaries
Deliver AI literacy training to staff involved in operating AI systems (Article 4)
Establish human oversight and risk-management processes for high-risk use cases
Fines reach up to €35 million or 7% of global annual turnover for prohibited AI practices, and up to €15 million or 3% of turnover for other infringements.
